| Hey folks,
I'm still keeping this site. I might blog on it from time to time. I want to overhaul it, though.
Until then, check out my new blog: www.xanga.com/davedelafuente

| Everything is cool. Real cool.
Like pool. And a pool, especially in the summer. And hockey, which is played on ice. And football, which is sometimes played in snow. And paintball. And music. And books. And instruments. And awesome professors. And great people. And macbooks. And the New York Rangers. And the Yankees. And the 49ers. They once were real cool. They still are, even though they suck. They will be cool once more. And friends. And family. Especially little nieces and nephews, because they're awesome. Ice cream. Ice cream floats. Shrimp (cuz there's a million things you can do with shrimp). Steak. Chipotle. Religion. Ideals. The good.
Then again.
Maybe not everything is cool. Such as air breaks being released whenever you walk by a truck. And waking up early on a snow day to shovel it all away, only to come back an hour later to shovel the entrance to your driveway again, because the snow plows redirected snow off of the street and onto your driveway. And stubbing your big toe. And losing your cell phone in the snow. And accidentally breaking your guitar hero controller. And losing your baseball glove. And getting out of shape. And getting sick. And seeing people die. And turning your back on someone in need.
But it's real cool that life is real cool. And when it's not real cool, there's always something real cool in life anyway.
Something is always real cool.

| Thank God for sports. Sports are awesome. They make living a healthy lifestyle fun. And lots of sports are fun to watch.
There's nothing like adopting a team as your own, sharing in the joy of their victories.
But to what extent should one emotionally espouse oneself to a sports team? How many people out there angrily slam their remote control when the referee makes the wrong call, or when their team just can't get it together?
It's a dangerous thing to become an involved spectator in sports. People put passion into it. And people let their emotions run wild. How else can you enjoy a riveting double-overtime victory, a 9th inning rally, a perfect game, a 4th quarter comeback, a shootout? It's one's passion that makes sports enjoyable... and at times, dangerous.
Maybe getting too involved is a bad idea though... especially if you have a short fuse, or a really bad temper. Sports should not be the reason why there's a hole in your bedroom wall, why the remote doesn't work, or why your shoes are so dinged up.
Some parents get so worked up about their children's sports lives that they embarrass themselves by jeering at the officials, or worse. There have been parents who have assaulted officials, coaches, other parents, or even other kids. In moments like these, something good and fun becomes a threat to people's well-being.
It's a difficult tightrope to walk, because you're inclined to put passion into the things you enjoy. But at the same time, you don't want the emotion to get the best of you. When that happens, fans throw things onto the court, and players can potentially retaliate. And then everything just gets ugly. For the home spectators, the remote control often gets the brunt of the damage. Or if people are unusual, their shoes get abused.
I need some new shoes...
Not really. But when your team loses badly, it's oh so tempting. | | |
